Stocks continued to trade in the past week as if they remain under heavy liquidation by major financial institutions worldwide. Although the banks showed a lot of promise earlier in the month, bouncing powerfully out of their swoon in July, they have rolled over significantly since -- and taken the broad market down with them. No matter what I may go on to say about the short-term picture, the long-term thrust of the market is still down. There are few sectors and stocks struggling to maintain their uptrends.
