Daily Edition (05/13/08)

Stocks consolidated their recent gains today, pushing lower in the morning by almost 1% following a round of downgrades of major banks and brokerages. By midday the buyers came back in and the tone improved on lower oil prices, a touch of optimism on retail sales and a new round of merger activity among technology companies.
